About Us
Why I Established SVP Arts & Education Consulting
I discovered my passion for dance as a teenager—considered late in the dance world. Formal training wasn’t an option for my family, but that didn’t stop me. I studied movement through TV shows like Solid Gold, American Bandstand, and MTV, absorbing every step I saw. But it was the movie Fame that truly ignited my desire—not just to dance, but to immerse myself in arts education. I longed to attend a performing arts high school, where students could train in dance, music, theater, and visual arts. More than anything, I wanted others to experience the transformative power of arts education the way I had.
When I began teaching dance in K-12 education, the journey wasn’t easy. My first opportunity came through a friend who worked at a charter school—they needed another dance teacher, so I applied and got the job. That role launched me into a career spanning multiple schools, districts, and states, each with its own challenges. Some schools had well-established dance programs, while others had nothing more than a hope for one.
I often took jobs that no one else wanted—not because they were easy, but because they were necessary. I understood that where there was no arts program, students were missing out on an essential part of their education and development. Over the past 20+ years, I have:
Established brand-new dance programs from the ground up
Revitalized struggling arts programs that were underfunded or neglected
Enhanced existing programs, helping them grow in structure, curriculum, and community impact
This journey led me to create SVP Arts & Education Consulting—a firm dedicated to revitalizing and sustaining arts programs nationwide. I know firsthand how hard it is for educators and administrators to build and maintain quality arts education with limited resources. That’s why my mission is to support schools, educators, and arts organizations in creating thriving, student-centered arts programs that last.
